Dragonfly Waterproof Trench 2026

The Dragonfly system already defines pure functional superiority in the ultralight rain category for run, hike, bike. In 2026 Beringia advances the platform with the Dragonfly Trench, a mid-thigh ultralight shell that takes performance rainwear to a crucial level.

Why it matters. One of the body’s most critical heat zones sits at the hips and upper thighs, where the Femoral artery moves warm blood between the core, legs, pelvis, and lower back. By extending protection below the waist, the Dragonfly Trench shields this circulation hub from wind, rain, and blowing snow, helping prevent rapid heat loss while keeping the core system warm and comfortable. The difference is immediate.

The extra length sheds precipitation cleanly off your pants, blocks cold updrafts, and deploys instantly when you need a barrier to sit on wet rocks, snow, or frozen surfaces. Physics, executed with ultralight precision.

Beyond the thermodynamics and tested field utility, the mid-thigh silhouette carries a certain urban authority, the kind of minimal presence that delivers crucial protection and unmistakable respect on rainy late-night streets from Berlin to Manchester.

Made from our proprietary Dragonfly rain shell fabric, a made in Japan, 3-layer, thin-film laminate and the foundation of the waterproof system.

• Extremely lightweight and packable.
• 2 zippered hand pocket & 1 zippered chest pocket.
• Micro-elastic on the cuffs to discrete venting and advanced hood design with fully taped seams.

Biomimically based on the high-strength-to-weight patterning of an Anisoptera wing.

Size: XXS-XXL

Fit: Dragonfly Jacket has a regular, layering friendly fit. Most will fit in size usually worn. If you are on the slim side of your side, you may like to size down.
Unisex fit: Men's fit usually true to size. If you normally wear a size medium, a size medium is your size - if you are slim/thin, or wish for a closer to body fit, you may wish to size down.
Women’s fit is generally one size down for best fit. If you normally would wear a women’s medium, a size small is your size. If you are petite or on the smaller side of your usual size range, sizing down two sizes works well.

DRAGONFLY SHELL

BACKPACKER MAGAZINE

LIGHTEST SHELL

If you’re as likely to encounter rain or sleet as you are snow on your winter excursions, this two-piece set will keep you dry without weighing you down. The brand’s proprietary, three-layer, ultrathin fabric protected us from Shenandoah National Park downpours, brisk winds while snowshoeing in Alaska’s Tongass National Forest, and seven hours of sleet during a Virginia ultramarathon without flinching. Breathability is very good, keeping us out of the red zone while we hiked at 50°F, and the whole kit packs down to the size of a couple of russet potatoes.

The Details

Even at this weight, the minimalist Dragonfly kit still has a few features: You get a chest pocket that fits a phone, a one-way adjustable hood and hem, always-open pit vents, and zips on the pants that run from ankle to knee for extra venting. (Nitpick: The hood brim flops around). And though the material is too delicate for substantial bushwacking, it held up well on-trail. “The nylon fabric is paper-thin, but after 100 miles of backpacking, hiking, and trail running, it still looks new,”
