Men's St. Elias Jacket

St. Elias jacket is the flagship of Beringia’s complete outerwear system for active winter sports.

Redesigned in 2024 with our new Täsmä precision-response fabric that variably adjusts to weather conditions, assuring the perfect balance of protection, breathability and comfort during activities that require unpredictable alternation between periods of high performance such as skiing and climbing (touring). The St. Elias Jacket has proven to be the most popular snow system in Hokkaido’s deep powder backcountry over the last decade.

Two main chest pockets can be accessed with a backpack or harness, and are roomy enough to hold essentials. Inside, a mesh pouch cradle goggles, gloves or skins and a zippered pocket is now added for extra security.

Asymmetrical cuffs have velcro closures that adjust and close quickly with any size glove or mitt. This jacket is loaded with essentials and new Vislon zippers for ease of operation.

Pairing the SE Jacket with the St. Elias bib creates a total integrated system for those with serious mountain ambitions.

Wearing St. Elias Jacket and Bib over our Diomede superfine merino baselayer and Lightstream breathable insulation offers a complete protective, thermo-regulating, and full-body stretch system, eliminating the need for extra bulky layers.

PFAS Free.

Size: S-XL

Weight: Size Medium weighs 625g / 22oz.

Fit: We would call the St. Elias fit an all-mountain fit – looser, more comfortable than an alpinist fit. With enough room for layering. Usually, true to size fit. If you are on the smaller end of your size, or prefer a snugger fit, sizing down works well. Sleeves are generous in length.

Model Measurements Model is 5'10" wearing a size medium jacket and bibs.

Best Jacket & Bibs for Back/Sidecountry skiing.

I heard about Beringia while skiing with John Falkiner a mountain guide in Switzerland. He was wearing the St Elias Jacket and Bib and recommended it as his favorite ski touring - backcountry set up. My 5 year old shell didnt have much breathability and no stretch. I m extremely impressed by the lightweight feeling and how the gear moves with my body while skinning and hiking up boot packs. I find one of the biggest differences is that I do not get cold since the jacket is breathable, which is a big difference from the fabrics of the past. The pockets and features are reduced but well designed. If I was only in-bounds skiing I might need another layer or burlier coat, since the northern rockies are a fairly cold region. If your hiking and skiing hard the ratio of warmth vs. breathable protection is perfect. This will be my go to set up for years to come. I look forward to seeing what this young brand develops next.

Seems well made, but.....

There's a lot to like about this jacket. It seems well made, but I siimply didn't like the hood cinching mechanism - it was too complicated and don't like visible strings to this extent - decided to return.

Jacket design is excellent however there is a major issue with the zippers

I am an experienced backcountry splitboarder who loves gear and is always looking for that new piece to add more warmth, comfort, and versatility. I decided to give this brand a try after meeting some of the Beringia team in Japan while touring around Hokkaido, we both had the same Japanese guide who was wearing the sister brand Teton Bros. I really like the materials and design of the jacket however there is something off with the zipper mechanism. I've never had a zipper on a piece of gear be as finicky, jam, stick and difficult to zip. This is obviously not ideal when its blowing hard on a 10,000 ft peak. Just yesterday the zipper completely failed while out on a tour on my St Elias shell and I need to return the jacket. I also purchased last seasons Bering Down Jacket. The Jacket is great however same thing, the zipper on this jacket jams all of the time also. Ive used many other brands over the years, Patagonia, Jones etc and never thought about the zippers.

Top in its class! Jacket and Bibs.

I got to know Beringia during a fun trip in Montana and I am so glad that it happened. Since then, Beringia became my number one partner in crime for my guiding job and leisure time too. Regarding St. Elias jacket and bibs, you understand immediately that you are into something when you first get it out from the package. Impeccably made, smart features, off the chart fabrics. The initial impression holds true when putting it to use. Look no further!

Best I've found so far

I purchased this jacket for my main resort skiing jacket and backcountry touring in mid winter. I prefer a more streamlined anorak shell for most touring use but this jacket is great when I want maximum protection. For resort use it's fantastic, with appropriate layering I've taken it up to the mid 40s and down below single digits. I have experienced zero wet through even in very wet maritime type snow storms when wearing a pack. The vent zips are so much better than the typically armpit ones and are very easy to do/undo singlehanded even when on a chairlift and much better and more useful when wearing a pack. I run these with the St. Elias bibs and the zippers on both match up really nicely. I am 5'11", 195 pounds, muscular/athletic build. I tried both the M and L. M was too trim fitting but good on body/sleeve length. L is more "freeride" fit but not baggy and works well with and without layers underneath. So far it has held up extremely well to a number of contacts with trees, etc. I look forward to many more seasons out of it!

The Flagship Of Beringia's Complete Outerwear System For Active Winter Sports

Redesigned in 2022 with our new Täsmä precision-response fabric that variably adjusts to weather conditions, assuring the perfect balance of protection, breathability and comfort during activities that require unpredictable alternation between periods of high performance such as skiing and climbing (touring). The St. Elias Jacket has proven to be the most popular snow system in Hokkaido’s deep powder backcountry over the last decade.

Two main chest pockets can be accessed with a backpack or harness, and are roomy enough to hold essentials. Inside, double mesh pouches cradle goggles, gloves or skins.

The interior pouches can be accessed from the outside slash vents, which allow you to dump excess heat faster than pit zips and are easier to reach.

Asymmetrical cuffs have velcro closures that adjust and close quickly with any size glove or mitt. This jacket is loaded with essentials  and new Vislon zippers for ease of operation.

Outdoor professionals praise its looser fit, stark minimalism, and lightweight, highly breathable protection. These are veterans who value the speed provided by frictionless, unadorned surfaces. Simply put, when you have a heavy dose of skills you need less equipment. And skills weigh nothing. If this is you, then Tsurugi is your weapon of choice.

The jacket is so light and soft you barely notice you're wearing a highly functional shell; ample room for snowboarding, hiking and the high exertion of short hikes and backcountry touring. This is the perfect piece for all season mountain wear, except for the coldest winter days in the Rockies. Enough room to layer up underneath without feeling constricted. The impressive design looks good on everyone without trying.

Pair It With The St. Elias Bib For A Total Integrated System For Those With Serious Mountain Ambitions.
