Perfect for spring in NW Montana

Airy light but durable, this is a perfect spring jacket for variable weather in NW Montana. It’s a great layer or shell for springtime backcountry skiing and also for the jumping arena with my horses. It’s quiet, breathable, and repels water completely. I’m so impressed with the quality of the product and very helpful customer service.

4.5 stars for mighty light with a specific fit

The light weight of this piece is pretty phenomenal, as is the water shedding and breathability. I've had similar weight shells like the Salomon Bonatti which is clammy as all get out. My old Patagonia anorak is also a bit less breathable, if slimmer fitting. I do prefer an Arc'teryx Alpha FL still for climbing, and a Beringia for skiing, but this is a great backpacking and running piece of kit. I found it comfortable for a cool and rainy run in NH and super light every day in my work pack. I did not fit in the L, in spite of being a large in all other brands: it was a little tight across the shoulders and I'm not that burly, even with the stretch. The XL is a good, if roomier fit (but I'm a bit roomier these days too), and it layers as well or better than my other comparable items. It is well-fitted in the shoulders for me, not too big, but there is a fair amount of fabric in the waist. It has vents vs pit zips (which I generally don't like, except the front mounted ones on the St. Elias), which seem to work well but I assume are better for rain than snow.

Yes Waterproof - more colors please

I love the simple uncluttered jacket and pants, great for runs in warm wet weather. I wish there were additional colors or brighter colors to choose from.

Amazingly light!

The jacket's light weight was even more shear and wispy than I thought... very impressive! The feeling of the fabric was still soft, not plasticky/stiff at all. The jacket is slim fitting and has some stretch, making it good to move in. I'm 5'8" and 135lbs (female), size small fit me as expected and I can layer underneath it or wear it comfortably with a t-shirt on warm/wet runs. It arrived the day of some heavy rains and I wear tested it immediately: I'm very happy with how well it kept the rain out. The color is neutral and I can also wear this on cooler/breezy walks in the evenings.

LIGHTEST SHELL

If you’re as likely to encounter rain or sleet as you are snow on your winter excursions, this two-piece set will keep you dry without weighing you down. The brand’s proprietary, three-layer, ultrathin fabric protected us from Shenandoah National Park downpours, brisk winds while snowshoeing in Alaska’s Tongass National Forest, and seven hours of sleet during a Virginia ultramarathon without flinching. Breathability is very good, keeping us out of the red zone while we hiked at 50°F, and the whole kit packs down to the size of a couple of russet potatoes.

The Details

Even at this weight, the minimalist Dragonfly kit still has a few features: You get a chest pocket that fits a phone, a one-way adjustable hood and hem, always-open pit vents, and zips on the pants that run from ankle to knee for extra venting. (Nitpick: The hood brim flops around). And though the material is too delicate for substantial bushwacking, it held up well on-trail. “The nylon fabric is paper-thin, but after 100 miles of backpacking, hiking, and trail running, it still looks new,”
