TÄSMÄ Anorak

A masterwork of uncluttered presentation, yet unconditional performance. F/W 24 Now Available.

Täsmä Anorak is a simple yet striking vetement, whose blade-like efficiency is visible in the bold slash of its asymmetrical zipper. Täsmä Anorak is preferred by ski guides from Grand Hirafu to Alyeska to Montana.

Now redesigned with our Täsmä precision-response fabric that variably adjusts to weather conditions, assuring the perfect balance of protection, breathability and comfort during activities that require unpredictable alternation between periods of high performance such as skiing and climbing (touring). Ideally suited to the Täsmä Anorak's core functionality.

Outdoor professionals praise its looser fit, stark minimalism, and lightweight, highly breathable protection. These are veterans who value the speed provided by frictionless, unadorned surfaces. Simply put, when you have a heavy dose of skills you need less equipment. And skills weigh nothing. If this is you, then TÄSMÄ Anorak is your choice.

The jacket is so light and soft you barely notice you're wearing a highly functional shell; ample room for snowboarding, hiking and the high exertion of short hikes and backcountry touring. This is the perfect piece for all season mountain wear, except for the coldest winter days in the Rockies. Enough room to layer up underneath without feeling constricted. The impressive design looks good on everyone without trying.

Better in some ways, worse in others

I have owned a Tsurugi shell (prior version of this) for 3 seasons as my main backcountry shell (St. Elias for the resort) and was looking to replace it as it's getting a little long in the tooth. I ordered the new anorak in M and L with plans to return one. I ended up returning both and will stick with my Tsurugi for now.

The good: I appreciate the pass sleeve in the left arm and the new cell phone pocket in the main anorak pocket. The hood is definitely larger and now comfortably fits over my helmet while the Tsurugi's hood was a bit tight. The hood adjusment mechanism is a definite improvement over the Tsurugi.

Neutral: the fit is a tiny touch larger than the old Tsurugi, which was always a little big on me (size L, 5'11" 195 lbs 42in chest). I could fit in both a M and L in the new anorak with the L being needed if I planned more than a baselayer and thin midlayer under it.

The not-so-good: two main issues. First is the material on the new anorak seems to be the exact same as on the St. Elias jacket. The old Tsurugi had a thinner tasma material which saved weight, pack size, and improved breathability over my old St. Elias jacket (which I replaced with the new one this year and have really enjoyed). With the thicker material the new Tasma is definitely more of an all rounder instead of a more backcountry specific piece, which is great if that's what you're looking for but not for me. I also felt the anorak pouch pocket was smaller on the new anorak than the Tsurugi as I had trouble getting my skins into the new jacket pocket while they fit comfortably in my Tsurugi.

Fit and finish is impeccable as always. Hopefully you all either do a revision on the anorak next year to bring it back more in line with the Tsurugi or release a backcountry specific shell!

Just cool

Great color (blue) and very breathable shell for how light and resistant it is.
I use this as a skin-up outer layer or temps > 25 degrees on mtn. Sort of a baggy fit but very stylish and functional

New Favorite Shell

It's the best shell around, Anaroak or not…. just incredible fabric, flexible and soft yet durable. It breathes well and keeps out the elements as well as any jacket on the market. I plan to stock up on all things Beringia from now on….

Svelte, Technical Anorak

I wanted an anorak for some time and the Tasma stood out from the rest. The fabric is smooth and soft but not fragile. The Baleen Blue did not disappoint and looks way better in person. I’ve gotten many compliments on the color and style of the Tasma. If you want a unique, minimalist, technical anorak buy the Tasma and thank me later!

I googled "anorak"

And the Täsmä came up, and it was rated highly, and I ordered it, and I love it!
It's been years since I have had anoraks in my world but I always loved them, so I looked again. Fits well with a pack, love the longer length and roominess for layers, snugs up to stay cozy and zips open to breathe as needed. Great deep pocket -- saw the comment about a full kangaroo and I see that point, but also this works.
Ordered the blue which makes me swoon.
